One of the many things that makes me excited about moving to Seattle is housing.

I lived in the Midwest before I moved to DC, and I was used to paying $300 or less per month in rent for a room in a house. Then I moved to DC and quickly got wise to the fact that you do not get much for your money. My first room in a house was more than three times what I paid in Pittsburgh and my current, semi-small room is more than twice as much. I talk about this to put Seattle housing in perspective. When I look at two bedrooms or townhouses in Seattle that cost $2,000, my heart sings “Oh my god, so cheap!” Granted, it’s not “cheap.” But in DC, $2000 may only get you a one-bedroom. Here’s what I could get with $2000 in a nice area of Seattle. I am using this as an example because it just looks amazing. The keywords:

contemporary 3 stories 2 bed/1.75 bath townhouse. Convenient bus lines. Ample amount of natural light with a skylight (automatically close with raindrops), unique high ceiling and beam design. Bamboo hardwood floor throughout. Granite counter tops kitchen with stainless appliances. Tile-floor bathrooms - bath tub and shower with glass doors. Master bath with tile heated floor. Small patio in the backyard.

Are you kidding me???!! Can I move in tomorrow?

I used to love chats. My chatting channels moved from AOL to mostly Gchat, and throughout most of high school, college, and grad school, I kept up with people’s lives via chatting. Though I still chat from time to time at work, chatting has lost its appeal somewhat. The most likely reason is the increasing distance between friends and lives. I actually chat more with people I see rather than people I don’t see. Another likely reason is that I do not want to feel the pressure to respond. I would like to be doing more productive things, such as learning something new or reading…and to avoid insufferable lines like this: “Ate with group and X today. X gave me a cookie.” What the hell am I supposed to say to that?

I really hate the font ITC Century Book. I was not even aware of its existence before I started my job, where it was the official report font. I find the font super difficult to read because it’s too curvy and letters seem to clutter together. Thankfully, the official font was changed to Arial this past year. My beef is now with people who continue to use this godforsaken font. Stop it people!

That is my plan.

Pacific Northwest trip fully planned! I look forward to Mount Rainier hiking, lots of beautiful beaches with amazing rock formations, three nights at a cottage 2 minutes away from the beach, eerie fortified tree remains in the ocean, whales, lavender and alpaca farms…my heart is bursting. :)
