A great This American Life episode →
Act One. Letter Day Saint.  (Features Gordon Gee’s family) Rebecca was 16 years old when her mother Elizabeth died of cancer. But before she died, she wrote letters to Rebecca, to be given to her on her birthday each year for thirteen years. At first the letters were comforting, but as time went on, they had much more complicated effects. David Segal tells the story. David is a reporter...

Random Thoughts From People Our Age →
haha…very true. The most true for me: Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you’re going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to...

Ode to Travel (or Top 15 Reasons I Love Thee)
travelhighlights: sarahmary: 15) We are like ham and eggs, you and me. Peanut butter and jelly. Vodka and tonic. When I’m with you I feel like I’m with my best friend — comfortable, wildly happy and a little silly. You make me laugh so hard that milk comes out of my nose. 14) You make me overcome my fears. Swim with sharks? No problem! Zipline through the rainforest? Bring it. 13) You taught...

List: Current state of mind
1. Unwell: I went to bed at 9p.m., woke up at midnight and could not fall asleep again. 2. Headache-y, and stomach feels weird. 3. Thinking of various school projects 4. I will look like hell tomorrow. 5. Annoyed at stupid data in an assignment. 6. Would the future I envision be the future I will have? 7. Sick of snow and coldness… …which reminds me of emo lyrics of a song by...

Recipes I tried lately
Over the weekend, I made this gluten-free Garbanzo Bean Chocolate Cake for Chris since he has wheat allergies, but I amended it so that it became cupcake. It was very easy to make and I basically just dumped everything in the food processor. Who knew that garbanzo beans (chick peas) could be used in cakes? I would say the batter ended up being half melted chocolate and half garbanzo beans, with...

Teach every child about food
Jamie Oliver’s TED Prize wish: Teach every child about food I deeply agree with this man on teaching children about food, but before that happens, it seems that we need to teach adults about food.  People have become increasingly removed from the food they eat because the food are increasingly processed.  How many of you have seen a chicken killed? Or skinned fish scales? Or know...

List: Things I want to do when I have a job
You might say, well you can do those things now… But really, there’s a limit to what I can do with the time and funds I have whilst in grad school.  Let’s dream of the day I have a job and can leave that job behind at five or six o’clock. What will I want to do with my time? I think it may be important to have this list to remind myself that I can constantly evolve and...

List: In a relationship
1. I feel like the guy 2. I don’t fight 3. When you ask me what I am thinking and it is a thought that I do not want to share, or if it’s something that I feel like I need to think more about, I say, “Nothing.” 4. But maybe (probably) these thoughts are important and I should be brave enough to speak, to ask, and to want to know. 5. I have fears and doubts (about...

Kinetic Sculpture →
“714 metal spheres, hanging from thin steel wires attached to individually-controlled stepper motors and covering the area of six square meters, animate a seven minute long mechatronic narrative. In the beginning, moving chaotically, then evolving to several competing forms that eventually resolve to the finished object, the Kinetic Sculpture creates an artistic visualisation of the process...
